When Omega presented its replica Omega De Ville Trésor watch in 2014, it was only available in white, yellow and Sedna gold. The watch received a lot of recognition, but it was simply beyond the reach of many of us. Omega listened and came with a stainless steel version. Two versions, with a blue dial that we have here today and one with a silver opaline dial.
The history of watches
The replica Omega De Ville Trésor watches in white gold is a watch that I looked at many times in boutiques, but the price of € 128 was too expensive for me. A pity, since it meets a lot of boxes for a suitable dress watch. A few months ago, during the Time to Move event in Switzerland, Omega showed us the new De Ville Trésor, with models in gold and stainless steel. We have two in our hands, so let’s take a closer look.
The De Ville collection was introduced in 1967 after this name has been used successfully for certain Seamaster watches since 1960. It was the last collection added to the Seamaster, Constellation and Speedmaster replica family. Today, the De Ville collection is performing very well, especially in Asia with the Omega De Ville Prestige replica watches.
The watch line
I think that the introduction of De Ville Co-Axial in 1999, in fact, the first watch in the series to have the Co-Axial escape invented by George Daniels, put it back in the spotlight in other parts of the world. Today, you will find several sub-collections in the De Ville family: replica Omega De Ville Ladymatic watch, Hourvision, Prestige, but also Trésor. As I wrote in the brief introduction of this article, in 2014, Omega showed us the De Ville Trésor with a manual wound movement manufactured in the house. But, only in precious metals.
Although you have the right to think that a gala watch should always be made of precious metal, I disagree. There is nothing wrong with a beautiful and elegant steel watch, which has all the right ingredients for a dress watch. A subtle box shape, as thin as possible, leather strap and keeping functions to a minimum.
Maybe a spoiler alert, but the newly released gold versions have no date window, which I prefer. The models launched five years ago, in precious metals, also had a date window. So, somehow, Omega decided to reduce the functions of the gold versions a little more than the stainless steel model. I’m pretty sure there are enough people out there, who prefer to have an appointment function, I’m not one of them.
The Dial Of Watches
In the stainless steel version with the blue dial, you will find this beautiful pattern. It reminds me of those rich spheres of the 1960s (and 1970s), with all kinds of motifs, patterns and decorations. It is the reason why I prefer this version over the silver opal dial of the other De Ville Trésor in stainless steel. It has a magnificent appearance and is combined with applied bar markers and elegant hands.
It all adds up to a beautiful watch dress. Hour markers, as well as hands, are made of 18-carat white gold. At 6 o’clock, you’ll find the opening date. Although it is well done, it is not too prominent, I could have done it without one.
The Watch Case
Where my beloved replica Omega Constellation Globemaster watch can find my thoughts on that watch in this article, it has a relatively thick case, the De Ville Trésor has a more elegant case. Especially his profile is more elegant. Not only the shape of the case in general, but also the movement of the hand wound, plays an essential role in the dimensions of the case. The housing is a little more than 10mm thick.
When replicas of the Omega De Ville Trésor watch were presented in 2014, it already had the 8511 caliber of movement of the master coaxial stopwatch. Also hand wound, of course. In these new 40mm De Ville Trésor watches, there are two different sizes. The 8929 caliber for the golden models (also used for the red De Ville Trésor dial, 125th anniversary edition that was presented last January, here) and the 8910 caliber movement for the steel watches.
The Movement of Watches
The gold watch with caliber 8929 has a gold bridge, but otherwise, these movements are practically identical. Both have 72 hours of power reserve, which is useful for a manual winding movement. In 2014, the movements within De Ville Trésor were not Master Chronometer, since METAS only started its certification for Omega watches in 2015.
These two new watches are certified as Master Chronometer and meet all the requirements for that. I don’t have many dress watches that I wear regularly. This is mainly due to the size, since I have my share of vintage watches of 34 and 36 mm. My 39mm gold Globemaster is perfect for me, but I think its thickness may be declassifying it as a classic dress.
When I put the Omega De Ville Trésor watch replica on my wrist, it’s a different appearance from the Globemaster. It looks more vintage due to the thinner box and due to the shape of the box. Although I prefer gold for a dress, this blue patterned dial is simply a killer. If you are competing for a dress watch from one of the big brands in the market, the steel version, but also the gold model (according to your budget, I suppose) are models that you can try.
The price of the watches
All variations come in crocodile leather straps, with buckles. Gold watches come with a gold buckle in the same color, of course. The steel model is priced at € 6200, regardless of the color of the dial you choose, and the gold versions are priced at € 14,300. If you want to make the most of it, the red lacquered dial version (Sedna gold) that was presented earlier this year is priced at € 16,900.
Omega, these days, is perhaps best known for its Seamasters and Speedmasters and a wide variety of editions in those two families. The Constellation and De Ville are often overlooked, since their collections are a bit all over the place. I am pretty sure that many people know the replica OMEGA De Ville Prestige and Constellation Manhattan models, but they have no idea of the Trésor or Globemaster collections, for example.
These are the subcollections of a collection. Since the presentation of De Ville Trésor in 2014, several people told me that they liked that model very much, but that they could not afford to go for the white gold version. Now, there is a steel model with an impressive dial, so I guess the watch is probably more accessible now.
Where I see the Globemaster more as a clock suitable for everyday use, or perhaps even as a ‘unique’ watch for some people, the replica Omega De Ville Trésor watches is less versatile. It is a dress watch and a beautiful one! I guess in addition to your sports watch, there is always room for a watch like this. From € 6200, VAT included, more information on the Omega website.
